Faculty of Social Sciences
The Social Sciences Building is quite different from other University buildings, as it is more of a circular network of corridors, offices, seminar rooms and lecture theatres. Overhead vines and wisteria wrap themselves around wooden pergolas that lead into the large social science courtyard, surrounded on every side by another section of the faculty. Take a look for yourself in this 360 degree panorama of the building.
The Social Sciences building is one of the most active buildings in the University. Several major departments and centres are housed here, and include such important faculties as:
- The Centre for the Study of Women and Gender,
- Economics
- Philosophy
- Politics and International Studies
- School of Law
- Institute for Health.
Café Social
Dominating one side of the open-plan reception is Café Social, a prolific ground for the Faculty's diverse range of departments. Over just one cup of coffee you could find yourself in a fiery political debate with a leading academic, trying to grasp grand philosophical theories, or getting free legal advice from young, eager law students.
The Faculty
The Faculty of Social Sciences spreads beyond the main building, too. Just opposite, the Ramphal Building houses the consistently top-ranking Sociology Department and more lecture theatres, while directly over the road is the internationally acclaimed Warwick Business School, which has its own building.
You can find the Institute of Education and the Centre for Lifelong Learning across campus, at Westwood. Here there are facilities in drama, art and music, alongside a new multi-media and literacy centre.
Combined, the many buildings, schools and departments within the faculty of social sciences form an impressive collection of academics, academic teaching and work produced by students.
But the same could be said about the Faculty of Medicine.
