Christmas Toy Collection for Coventry Children

comb_p.jpgStaff and students from across the University have very generously contributed hundreds of toys and gifts for looked after and vulnerable children in Coventry.

Father Christmas himself helps to give out the presents at Coventry City Council's annual Christmas party for vulnerable and looked after children.

It is a sad truth that for many of these children, this might be the only present they receive this Christmas.

For more than 8 years, Fiona Linton, from our Maths Department, has worked tirelessley to enthuse a network of helpers across the University who in turn encourage staff and students in their areas to donate.

And donations weren't just from staff. Warwick Volunteers made this the theme of their #givingtuesday in November to encourage students to join in and donate a gift too.

This year, it took 3 Santa sleighs (a car and two people carriers) to transport all the presents to the Coventry City Council collection point.

Cllr Ed Ruane, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, has been working hard to spread the message to new people and organisations across the city to encourage even more donations this year and came to campus last week to hear more about our campus collection and talk to Fiona about her efforts to encourage her campus elves.
