Language Tutors
Local schools are looking for volunteers to help deliver their strategy for teaching languages. They are looking in particular for speakers of European languages such as French, Spanish and German, but there may also be opportunities for speakers of other languages. This project has been well established for a number of years, and Warwick Volunteers have strong links with a number of local primary schools.
We also have links with secondary schools in all of these areas if you would prefer to assist an older age group. Volunteers can help in the classroom or run lunchtime or after school revision clubs to help students with their GCSE coursework and general language work.
Volunteering Opportunities
Language tutors help classroom teachers in primary and secondary schools to deliver language classes and workshops. Having fluent and interesting speakers will help to make the classes more exciting, and hopefully inspire more people to continue studying languages at a higher level, maybe even onto university.
Skills needed
- The only requirement for this project is the ability to speak a European foreign language to a high standard
- A-Level or above is fantastic, although we will consider volunteers with GCSE level.
Time commitment
One morning or afternoon per week.
Volunteering starts in term 2. In term 1 you are simply required to attend one tutor training session and one safeguarding children session.
For more information, visit our stall in the Panorama Room, Rootes Building on Friday 7th October, 2011.
Project Leaders
Hi! We are your project leaders for the Language Tutoring Project this year: Judita, Jason, Daria and Lulu

Hey friends! I am Lulu Chen, coming from China.
I am a third year student, studying Sociology at Warwick.During my second year,
I chose to be a mandarin tutor with children, mainly because working with children
is the best moment in my life. At the same time, I could also get chance to introduce
them some Chinese cultural knowledge. During this year, I hope to plan a culture
day specialized in Chinese tradition and different customs compared with Western culture.
Hope everyone could come and join us.
Apart from it, I enjoyed playing basketball and making
new friends. So whenever you need help, feel free to contact me! I am here just to make
sure you have the best possible volunteering experience. Hope to see you soon!
If you have any problems or questions during your involvement with the project, please feel free to get in touch with any or all of us. You can contact us by e-mailing:
