Project Aim:

Every year a significant volume of saleable goods and food is left behind by undergraduate and postgraduate students at the end of academic years. Without intervention the majority of this is incinerated. For the past two years, Warwick Volunteers in partnership with Oxfam and Warwick Accommodation has been building the capacity necessary to reduce both the environmental impact of this waste, recycle as much unsalable stock as possible, but also recover stock of significant value to support a range of local charities and help Oxfam's work to overcome poverty and suffering.

The project also allies with  local homeless and refugees' charities to redirect food and other goods. Thus far, we have supported Oxfam, the Coventry Peace House, the Coventry Refugee Centre, Second Chance, the Turn Around Project, Age Concern charity shops, Coventry Homeless projects (Norton House, Coventry Cyrenians, Jesus Army), Kairos and many other.

Upcoming Volunteering Opportunities:

Volunteers are needed to help with collecting and sorting food, toiletries and pots and pans on:

Saturday 20th March - 10:30am -4pm

Sunday 21st March - 11am-4pm  

All donations will be redistributed to help support these local charities: Coventry Refugee Centre, Coventry Cyrenians Norton House day centre for the homeless and Bath Place Community Venture.

Training and support:

Health and Safety Training is given, gloves are supplied. Packed lunches are supplied.
