    Information for staff

    The University encourages its staff to help out in the community, not only because of the benefits this brings to local communities, but also because volunteering helps to develop team working and other skills in the individuals concerned

    Warwick Volunteers can assist in establishing contact with local community organisations and schools, and can provide advice on successful forms of community engagement.

    Volunteering as an individual?

    Browse all staff volunteering opportunities

    • Not only does volunteering give you the chance to develop and enhance new skill sets and give you a sense of satisfaction of 'giving back' to society, it can also be a lot of fun and a welcome break from your daily routine!
    • Whether it is to enrich the curriculum offered to students, to contribute to objectives such as Widening Participation, or to increase knowledge and awareness about their work in the wider community, Warwick Volunteers can provide a range of different volunteering opportunities
    • Although staff may find it more difficult than students to find time for their volunteering, there are still plenty of opportunities that can fit around the working week.
    • Some projects require a regular commitment, but many are flexible and we also have one-off events that you can get involved in.

    Volunteering as a team;

    Is your team interested in undertaking a team challenge?

    • Team building events are great for helping groups to get to know each other better, developing teamwork skills and raising morale. What better way for your department to achieve this than by spending a day (or half a day) volunteering as a team and making a difference in the local community?
    • A number of university departments have carried out team challenges, typically involving a group of 10-20 staff carrying out a one-day practical project for a local school or community centre. These challenges are a good way for departments to develop their staff through team-building activities whilst supporting the local community. Recent examples include:

      • Senior Officers fitting 'friendship benches' for a local primary school.
      • Human Resources team transformed the reception area of Hereward College.
      • Research Support Services carried out a garden makeover for a local school.
    • At Warwick Volunteers we keep an up-to-date list of projects which would be suitable for one-off events and an excellent opportunity for colleagues to spend a day out of the office helping in the local community

    Please Note: Although volunteering can often be done at lunchtimes, at the end of the working day, or during the weekend, some projects might also take up a small amount of work time – so we will always suggest you check with your line manager before starting a volunteering project.
