If you are around campus this Summer, there are many volunteering opportunities you can get involved in! From helping run an event to supporting older people using IT devices, there's a range of opportunities to choose from.

One-off opportunities : if you can't commit to a regular volunteering activity over the summer but would still like to give some of your time to support local projects.

Regular opportunities : if you would like to volunteer a little every week over the summer.

Please note that the hours you volunteer with these projects can count towards your Warwick Volunteers Certificate for 2017-18. Read more

Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice - Fundraising days in Cannon Park

Zoё's Place Trust is a registered charity providing palliative, respite and end of life care to babies and infants aged from birth to five years suffering from life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

They are running three fundraising days in Cannon Park close to Warwick campus, on Friday 7th July, Friday 28th July and Friday 4th August. They are looking for volunteers to help with awareness raising, donation bucket, regular giving on one or several days. Times are flexible.

The Big Butterfly Count - Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 July

Join Foundry Wood in the Big Butterfly Count at the woodland on Saturday 22nd or Sun 23rd July between 11am – 1pm in Leamington Spa.

The Big Butterfly Count is a nationwide survey aimed at identifying trends in species, and planning how to protect butterflies from extinction, as well as understanding the effect of climate change on wildlife. You can help Foundry Wood count the butterflies (and moths) in the woodland. You will be given a chart to help identify them.

African & Caribbean: Food & Music Festival - Saturday 22 July

The African & Caribbean: Food & Music Festival is taking place in Broadgate Coventry on Saturday 22nd July. There will be food stalls, a stage with music and other forms of entertainment, a cultural exhibition and a children’s play area.

Volunteers are needed on the day to support the children’s play area. Activities include face-painting, storytelling and arts and crafts. Volunteers can also help steward on the day.

Viking Family Day assistants - Friday 28 July

The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum are looking for volunteers to support the Viking Family Day on Friday 28th July, which is their biggest family day of the year. They have a whole host of exciting activities planned for volunteers to get involved in, including living history characters, displaying Viking weapons and teaching families how to become a Viking warrior, in addition to greeting visitors and supporting the team with the setting up and running of the many activities.

Sport in the Park volunteers - 3 & 4 August

A sport in the park event will be held on 3rd & 4th August at Edgewick Park, Coventry.

Volunteers are needed to help with general event duties – signing in sheets, handing out meal vouchers, helping to set up and possibly manning stalls/ assisting with activities. You can also suggest and run your own activity.

Volunteer at Art in the Park 2017 - 5 & 6 August

‘Art in the Park 2017’ will take place on August 5th & 6th in Jephson Gardens, Royal Leamington Spa. It is a fun-filled and creative weekend festival of art, crafts, live arts demonstrations, performance, music and dance.

This festival does not and could not happen without the help and support of volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help with traffic management, run stalls, assist workshops, distribute etc. Please email if you want to volunteer, run an event, or take part in any other way.

Foundry Woods Volunteers Day

The Friends of Foundry Wood run a regular volunteer day on the first Sunday of each month to maintain the woodland. Tasks will be varied and depending on how many people turn up and what needs doing.
Please wear suitable clothing such as long sleeved shirts/long trousers/layers and waterproofs. Sturdy shoes such as boots or wellies also recommended. All gloves and materials provided as well as tea/coffee and biscuits!

Kenilworth Arts Festival, 17-23 September

Kenilworth Arts Festival is a week-long gathering of writers, musicians and other creative artists. It is at once a series of unique events and collectively an extraordinary experience. For one week, the historic town of Kenilworth is transformed into a hive of creative exploration through a celebration of art, imagination, innovation and community.

The festival is organised entirely by volunteers. If you are passionate about the arts and about making a positive difference in the local community, they would love to hear from you. There are a range of ways to get involved, to suit your interests, skills and availability.

Regular Opportunities

'Fearsome Craftsmen' Exhibition Volunteers

This summer, the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum are hosting a touring exhibition from the Jorvik Centre in York. Fearsome Craftsmen focuses on how the Vikings lived once they settled in the UK and uses objects such as shoes, jewellery and tools to tell the story of their everyday lives. The are looking for volunteers to help with the following:

Exhibition Interpreter volunteer role: enhance the visitor experience and allow visitors to explore and discover things they would not otherwise get from just looking at objects and reading text panels.

Gallery Volunteer role: assist the Front of House team in making sure visitors enjoy their time in the exhibition, but making sure that the security and safety of the visitors and the exhibits is always maintained.

Learning Activities Assistant: help run craft activities for children themed on the Vikings.

Coventry Transport Museum, Family Workshops Volunteers

The Coventry Transport Museum are looking for volunteers to support educational activities with families and children and assist the facilitators and participants – starting now with their exciting summer holiday programme ‘Creative Car Factory’. The role includes welcoming the participants of the workshops, assisting the facilitator/ the artist during the workshop and helping set up and tidy up the workshop. Times are flexible. Volunteering with families including children under 5 years, you will be sociable, approachable and able to encourage family learning while having fun.

LWS Night Shelter Volunteers

LWS Night Shelter is a not-for-profit organisation, set up to provide food and shelter for the homeless and vulnerably housed in Leamington Spa and the surrounding area.

They are looking for volunteers to help keep the shelter open. Volunteering is very flexible, and you can choose the role that suits you, whether it's helping with setting up, catering or staying overnight and provide companionship. You won't have to volunteer every week, but the Night Shelter relies on a safe number of volunteers to remain open.

Food Union - Communal work sessions

Since October 2014, the Food Union has been bringing the people of Coventry together around healthier and more sustainable ways of producing and eating food.

Weekly communal work sessions are led by a Food Union representative to complete the carious tasks appropriate to the week/season. Volunteering jobs range from digging, weeding, building structures (like raised beds and sheds) to more technical horticulture. The Food Union has two communal garden sites: the Beake Avenue Allotments and Cultivate CV5 – Sherbourne Valley Allotments. Volunteering sessions usually take place on Tuesday afternoons and occasionaly on the weekends, commitment is flexible.
