Your Green Future

Photo of post-its from the event

Our Sustainability team were recently invited to take part in the “Your Green Future” event in Solihull. The aim of these events is to explain the idea of a low carbon economy to students aged 12-18, and get them thinking about the role they could play in this economy through their career choices. Around 500 students from all over our local region came to hear from us and from other organisations.

The team led a workshop session on resources, inviting those who attended to think about how they could reduce their impact on the environment and educating them on the challenges our University faces. The students thought of innovative solutions to reduce the 1.5 million coffee cups we throw away on campus every year. Ideas ranged from a cup that played music to offering loyalty cards and discounts.

Remember Warwick Retail currently offer a 10p discount if you bring your own cup!

Sustainability Champions Judi and David commented:

“For us, it was a great opportunity to work with young people in the local community and raise the profile of Warwick. Many of the ideas were creative and practical and there was a great atmosphere throughout the day. We are starting to do more to reach out to the region and recently ran a city wide Go Green Week in collaboration with Coventry University, Coventry City Council and the new Coventry Climate Action Network (CoventryCAN)”
