2012 is already the biggest year of sport in our country’s history. The Olympics return to the UK after 64 years but even more noteworthy for all Warwick sporting graduates is the first ever Warwick Sports Reunion Weekend! On Saturday July 14th 2012 the University will play host to the first such reunion since the opening of the University in 1965.
If you were a sports club member, member of the Sports Centre or an intramural aficionado during your student days this weekend will provide you with a chance to revisit your alma mater and catch up with some old friends. If you haven't been back recently, the University will be unrecognisable as its development continues apace.
The activities on offer may change as we build momentum toward the weekend but at the moment the day looks like this:
Campus Morning
9am to 12noon – access to the Sports Centre to swim, use the gym or climbing wall, attend a class or play squash.
An Afternoon of Sport
1pm to 4pm - opportunities to play football, hockey, volleyball, basketball, netball or tennis or any other sport you'd like to suggest. Let the organisers know.
Dinner
A three course dinner will begin at 7.30pm in the Rootes Building and will be followed by the obligatory disco with sounds covering the decades!
Contacts
The following people are acting as decade advocates and will be happy to provide more information:
- 1960s & 70s – Terry Monnington (Director of Sport)
- 1980s – Stuart A Wade (graduate)
- 1990s – Steve Sharman (graduate & former Assistant Director of Sport)
- 2000s – Gemma Morris (Sports Officer 2004/05 & Warwick Sport Manager)
If the Olympics inspire you to get back on the fitness road in 2012 make this weekend a stopping point in that journey.
