PhD Student article in The Burlington Magazine
PhD student Alice Eden is to be published inThe Burlington Magazine. Her article entitled 'Robert Anning Bell in Liverpool, 1895-99' concerns a 'second-wave' Pre-Raphaelite artist who is one of the subjects of her research.
Eoin Martin, a 2nd year PhD student in the History of Art Department, is co-organising a conference on the Material Culture of Mourning in Victorian Britain. The conference is co-funded by the Universities of York and Warwick and will take place at the Humanities Research Centre, University of York, on 3 December 2011. Following an award from the University's Undergraduate Research Scholarship scheme a group of Hisotry of Art students have been working with Dr Jenny Alexander of Warwick and Professor Terryl Kinder of Pontigny to analyse the constructional and masons' marks of the Chruch at Pontigny.

An international conference on 6 July 2011 at Ca' Foscari in Venice addressing
Art and Culture in the Venetian Mediterranean. The event is co-convened by History of Art's Dr Donal Cooper and Lorenzo Calvelli of Univesita' Ca' Foscari Venezia and is supported by the Institute of Advanced Study and the Centres for Global History and Renaissance Study.
Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship
Emeritus Professor Michael Rosenthal has been awarded a sought-after Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship to work on a project entitled 'Governor Macquarie's Culture' in Sydney between November 2011 and April 2012. Before he sets off down under Michael will also be a visiting scholar at the Yale centre for British Art from the end of September.
The History of Art department was delighted to welcome Professor Karen Lang from the University of Southern California as a Leverhulme Visiting Professor from January to April 2011. Karen is author of Chaos and Cosmos, a study of the ‘conceptual foundations’ of her discipline, and of the impact of Kantian aesthetics on Modernism over its longue durée. Karen is also editor of the leading journal, Art Bulletin.
Throughout February and March a series of events took take place across the Faculty, including a series of four
Leverhulme Lectures, seminars in collaboration with German and Philosophy, and more informal events in the host department, History of Art. Further details of Karen’s research activities can be found on her own

Association of Art Historians Annual Conference
The
37th AAH Annual Conference was held at the
University of Warwick on
31 March - 2 April 2011. The conference showcased the diversity and richness of art history in the UK and elsewhere.

Dr Jenny Alexander's studies of the marks made on the blocks of walling and on moulded stone as part of the construction process of medieval buildings could provide an important lesson for the manufacturers of flat-pack furniture.
The Warwick-Newberry Collaborative Programme
The first strand of activities, proposed by Dr Louise Bourdua and Dr Victoria Avery of Warwick’s History of Art department, will concentrate on
the family (an elementary form of community organisation) and its impact on the early modern Italian workshop in both a broader Italian and English context. This programme will take the form of a seminar series to be held at Warwick and at its base in Venice during the academic year 2009-2010.
Artist in Residence
Dan Perjovschi (b.1961, Romania) was in residence on campus 22-29 October 2007. He produced temporary drawings in the History of Art department at Millburn House, along with interventions in the Arts Centre, the Statistics building, and the stairwell of the Library.
