Classics at Warwick - Outline of courses
The Classics Department encourages its students to explore Greek and Roman civilization in a wide cultural context. The basic approach is wide-ranging and interdisciplinary, covering ancient languages, literature, philosophy, history, material culture, and contemporary theoretical approaches. Many modules are team taught by more than one member of the lecturing staff, so that students benefit from different approaches and ways of analysing evidence. In addition to gaining insights into the ancient world, our students develop transferable skills, such as powers of argument and analysis, and communication skills. We encourage our students to travel abroad to the Mediterranean, exploring the ancient world for themselves or participating in organized summer schools. Students taking modules in Art and Architecture of Asia Minor, and Domestic Space in the Roman World usually have the chance to particpate in a study tour with members of staff; the first-year core modules and the optional Roman Britain module include local day-trips to museums and/or sites. Students opting for Principles and Methods of Classical Archaeology take part in a week-long dig on a local site, and visit local museums.

Prospective students are encouraged to attend a general University Open Day, a Warwick Visit, or a Campus Tour. Students who receive an offer are then invited to attend a departmental open day, where they can meet members of staff and current students, and sample mini lectures: these will take place on tbc 2012. Please fill in the electronic booking form and return it to us as soon as possible.

Candidates should normally satisfy the University's General Entrance Requirements (set out in the Prospectus). We equally welcome candidates with a classically-related subject and anyone with a genuine interest in the subject, including mature students and access to Higher Education Courses. The number of full-time undergraduate students admitted annually to the Department is roughly 60, and there is a growing number of part-time degree students.
