Epic & Epyllion
CX 230This module introduces some important examples of ancient epyllion literature from the Hellenistic and Roman periods and considers this exciting form of narrative in a wider cultural context. The ancient narratives modern scholars refer to as 'epyllia' (i.e. little epics), often appeal greatly to modern readers because of their subjective nature, romantic perspectives, and their content, which tends to be erotic or fantastic. This module is available in 2010/11. Module convenor: Dr Andrew Laird (on leave) Module tutor: Dr Monica Matthews For further details, see left-hand links. |
