Epic & Epyllion

[c]

CX 230

This module introduces the major ancient examples of epyllion literature (and some modern ones) and this exciting form of narrative in a wider cultural context. The ancient narratives modern scholars refer to as 'epyllia' (i.e. little epics), appeal greatly to modern readers because of their subjective nature, romantic perpsectives, and their content, which tends to be erotic or fantastic.

This module is available in 2008/9.

Module convenor: Dr Andrew Laird (on leave)

Module tutor: Dr Monica Matthews
