JACT Inset - Secondary teaching with ancient artefacts

Joint Warwick-Oxford INSET, Ioannou Centre and Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.

This INSET is aimed at Secondary teachers of Classical subjects (Classical Civilisation, Ancient History, Latin, Ancient Greek) who would like to improve their understanding and use of visual and material culture in their teaching. In addition to an opening lecture by Dan Orrells, each participant will attend three, 45-minute workshops run by specialists in Ancient Art, Inscriptions, and Coins. There will also be a 45-minute slot for teachers to explore other galleries in the Ashmolean Museum in their own time.

Speakers and workshop leaders will include: Prof Kevin Buthcer, Dr Suzanne Frey-Kupper, Prof. Alison Cooley, Dr Jane Masseglia, Dr Zahra Newby, Dr Clare Rowan. Representations of the Asmolean Education Dept and Oxford Classics Outreach will also be on hand.

There is no charge for attending. Travel bursaries are available for teachers from state schools.
