Prescription for Classics students: Latin Texts 2011/12

    • Horace, Odes book 3 (OCT Wickham-Garrod) - text online: it is important to work from this version
    • Res Gestae divi Augusti (CUP Cooley) - text online: it is important to work from this version
    • Suetonius Life of Augustus 1-34 - Carter text online

It is ESSENTIAL that you read these texts BEFORE the start of each term.

In our classes, we will not be translating the texts line by line, but trouble-shooting particularly tricky passages, and commenting on things of stylistic and historical interest. Please come along to the classes having already read the texts, bringing notes on any passages you would like help in translating. Feel free to download texts from The Latin Library, but be aware that these may differ slightly from the set editions specified below:

    • Horace Odes 3
