Origins of the Modern Novel

This course will consider the emergence of fictional prose narrative from older verse forms, which led to the mixture of genres and styles known as the 'modern novel'.

The module will follow the same syllabus that is listed on this page. Students taking the module in the Latin option are advised to begin reading Virgil, Aeneid 9 (ed. P.R. Hardie) in preparation for the start of term.
