Mary Addyman

Welcome to my ePortfolio. My name is Mary Addyman and I'm a doctoral student at the University of Warwick. I am based in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies.

My main research area is nineteenth-century collectors, collecting practices, and collections themselves. I am interested in what drives people to collect, what happens to objects included in collections, and literary representations of collectors. I am supervised by Dr. Emma Francis and Dr. Gill Frith and funded by the AHRC.

To find out more about my research, please take a look at the section of this portfolio entitled 'Education and Research'. You can also keep up with my research by following my blog, The Curious World of Victorian Collecting.

Current roles and projects

In 2013/14 I am an HRC Doctoral Fellow, and with my colleages Laura Wood and Christopher Yiannitsaros, am co-organising a conference entitled 'Devouring: Food, Drink and the Written Word, 1800-1945'. You can find details here and follow our blog here.

In 2013/14 I am a seminar tutor on the module EN123 Modern World Literatures.

I am a postgraduate representative on the committee of MIVSS, the Midlands Interdisciplinary Victorian Studies Seminar.

Last year I interned with Wellcome Trust funded project, The Congress for Curious People. My main responsibilities were for our web and social media profiles, and I compiled, edited and published the web archive of our events.

I co-organise the Victorian Culture Interdisciplinary Reading Group; click here to see our webpages.
