I am a PhD candidate in English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick, UK. My research focuses on contemporary women's neo-Victorian (or post-Victorian) historical fiction and girls' comics (shōjo manga) in Britain and Japan. I am currently on a Warwick Chancellor's International Scholarship (2012-2015).

I graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2011 with a Masters (by Research) in Literary Studies. My MA thesis discussed apocalyptic narratives in Japanese shōjo manga of the 1990s in relation to fin-de-millennial anxieties about the postmodern 'virtualisation' of the world.

My research interests revolve around contemporary women's writing and culture, transnationalism, postcoloniality, cultural hybridity and the possibility of a transnational feminist politics and aesthetics. I am also interested in exploring how I can leverage on my subject position as a Singaporean to interrogate the complexities of (neo-) imperial relations between Britain, Japan and the rest of Asia.

On a personal level, I enjoy reading and drawing Japanese-style manga and my fan interests inform my research and vice versa.
