Postgraduates
The Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick is a highly regarded research department, with expertise across a broad spectrum of specialisms including: Medieval Religious Literature, Renaissance Literature, the English Poetic Tradition, the European Novel, Comparative Literature, Theatre, Postcolonial Literature, Psychoanalysis, American Studies, Gender and Sexuality, Writing in the British Isles, Global Literature, Modernism, Modern American Poetry, 18th Century Literature and Culture, 19th Century Literature and Culture and Religion and Literature. Postgraduates in both the taught and research degree programmes are very much embraced within the department and are welcomed here in a way similar to new staff. You will share a common room with academics in the department, and enjoy full access to dedicated computer and library facilities.
There are well established links with related departments and Centres (including the Centre for Research in Philosophy and Literature and the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance) as well as active engagement with the Warwick Writing Programme.

The Department offers two levels of postgraduate taught programmes: the MA and the Postgraduate Diploma.

Preliminary enquiries
We welcome preliminary enquiries from prospective PhD students. Please send a draft proposal, a CV (including academic qualifications) and a sample of writing from your MA to either Dr Emma Francis (PhD Admissions Tutor) or to Cheryl Cave (the Graduate Secretary).
Scholarships
When applying for your PhD place, you will be asked on the application form whether you also wish to apply for a Chancellor's Scholarship or AHRC scholarship. You will then be directed to an additional section of the application form. Details of these scholarship schemes can be found by clicking here (or go directly to the Warwick Graduate School website). Please note that applications open on 1st November, 2011 and close on 31st January 2012.
