The MPhil
Two to three years full-time leading to a 65,000 word dissertation.
Candidates should normally hold (or be about to complete) an MA or equivalent before applying, although applicants with good first degrees will be considered. It is suggested that candidates contact the PhD Admissions Tutor, Dr Emma Francis, before proceeding to an application.
The MA by Research
One year full-time leading to a 40,000 word dissertation.
This is a discrete piece of research, prepared by a student with a prior MA level research training, working independently under supervision. Students wishing to apply for this degree will need to give reasons why they wish to do this, rather than the taught MA. NB - for most students including those who plan to proceeed to PhD study, the taught MA and not the MA by Research is the appropriate route. It is suggested that they contact the Director of Graduate Studies, Dr Emma Francis, and discuss their plans before proceeding to an application.
