Prospective Undergraduates
The Department of French Studies welcomes applications from students who are already studying French at A level, but who wish not only to develop their language skills, but also to expand and deepen their interest in aspects of French and Francophone culture and society that they may not yet have had the opportunity of exploring. These include:
- politics
- cinema
- literature
- media
- history
The Department comprises 15 full- and part-time staff, some of them native French speakers, and three French language assistants. This means that it is large enough to ensure that we can offer you a wide range of modules dealing with French language, culture and society from the Medieval period to the twenty-first century, yet small enough to remain friendly and accessible. All of our modules are taught by specialists and the Department was placed in the top category in the most recent rounds of national assessments for both teaching and research.

Information about typical offers can be found in the online prospectus.
