The Performance

What would you do if you were asked to be a father in an email? If your Dad thought it was dance school that turned you gay? If you'd never had the chance to see the man behind the mask? A playful and moving search through diaries, bibles, memories and dreams, an imaginative leap across oceans and decades led by three performers whose far-away fathers might just make an appearance.

Following the development of this beautiful piece at First Bite and Bite Size Festivals, Babakas Theatre joined forces with the Centre for the History of Medicine to bring you a first chance to see the full length version of 'Our Fathers' and the last chance to help shape it as it is being made. On 12th and 13th June at 7pm, the piece was performed in full at the Studio Theatre in the Warwick Arts Centre, to a near sell-out audience.

Directed by: Juan Ayala and Mike Tweddle

Juan Ayala trained at the Jacques Lecoq School in Paris and London International School for Performing Arts (LISPA). He is a director, set designer, performer, writer and architect based in Madrid. He is the artistic director of Collectivo Decollage (Spain), a co-director of Mirage Teatro (Spain), has worked as a performer and workshop leader for Temple Theatre (UK), and has directed BE FESTIVAL’s education programme, BE Next, for the last two years.

Dramaturgy: Brian Mullin

Brian Mullin is an award-winning American writer and performance-maker, currently living and working in the UK. Brian's most recent play, M4M, was workshopped last December in High Tide Festival Theatre's Genesis LAB. His long history of devised work includes: Rip Me Open, seen in New York at Ars Nova, Galapagos Art Space, and Dixon Place; Infinite, a piece on climate change at the National Theatre Studio, created with young people from the NT's New Views programme; and several devised plays created with the Youth Onstage company at the Castillo Theatre in New York.
