Masculinity in the American South

History Postgraduate Symposium

Saturday 7th June 2008, University of Warwick

The purpose of this symposium was to explore how masculinity has shaped the culture and history of the American South from colonial times to the present. It aimed to highlight the importance of masculinity as a category of analysis, and invited scholars to reflect on how masculinity has intersected with class, race and power to structure social relationships between blacks, whites and Native Americans throughout the history of the South.

We would like to thank all of the speakers, chairs and attendees for their help in making this symposium extremely successful.
