Module Description

This module in Modern Spanish Language for post beginners follows the first year Module HP102 and seeks to consolidate the language skills gained in students’ first year of study. The aim of this module is to further extend and refine competence in modern Spanish. It covers the main linguistic (oral, aural, written, spoken) skills, and seeks to promote the continued acquisition of grammatical awareness and essential communicative competences.

HP202 is a combination of LL257 Spanish Intermediate Accelerated (3 hours) and Spanish Language modules taught by Hispanic Studies (2 hours).

At the end of the course you will be able to understand discourse about concrete and abstract topics, to give presentations about different topics, to report on the results of your independent reading and research, and to state your point of view and support it with solid arguments. You will make use of authentic resources from around the Hispanic world, including films, books, articles, newspapers, television and radio. Students will work on translation into and out of Spanish as a means of consolidating relational grammatical and syntactic competence and extending idiomatic expression in a variety of registers. In addition to tasks undertaken during class-time, students will also be required to complete a range of (formative) study tasks aimed at complementing and deepening the material covered in formal instruction. The module will also prepare students for their year abroad.
