I am an experienced language educator and have worked in secondary and tertiary sectors during my career. I was an early adopter of technology for teaching and learning languages and play an active role in the computer-assisted and computer-mediated language learning communities, I was formerly Chair of the CMC (Computer-mediated communication) special interest group for Eurocall. I am an open educational practitioner and lead the Association for Learning Technology's Open Ed SIG.

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Certified Member of the Association for Learning Technology.

A WATE award winner, I have taught and managed language learning in both Secondary and Higher Education for 30 years and have proven, extensive learning design skills. I have innovated in assessment for learning, leading our international team in the implementation of e-portfolio assessment, now an established part of our assessment regime. I contribute to the wider academic community through my active participation in online communities such as #LTHEchat and Global Education Conference Network. I mentor and review for Warwick's APP:EXP route to Higher Education Fellowship and ALT's Certified Membership scheme and I'm an editor for the ALTC blog. I also review articles in my areas of specialism for ReCALL journal , EUROCALL and ALT conferences.

I am a founder Fellow of the Warwick International Higher Education Academy and have been responsible for the design and leadership of two projects to enhance teaching at Warwick:

Learning and teaching languages in the digital age

#KNOWHOW Knowledge in the open web

and I have also contributed to the work of one of the learning circles.

I am part of the EU EVOLVE team, a 3 year project to support the normalisation of Online Intercultural Exchange.
