Dr Paddy McNally

Research Interests

Irish history from 1690 to 1848 and the history of political thought, particularly patriotism and nationalism. Click here for a list of publications.

Currently working on two major research projects:

  • an edition of the correspondence of Hugh Boulter, Archbishop of Armagh 1724-42, with Dr Kenneth Milne (official historiographer of the Church of Ireland) (due for publication in 2009)
  • a book From the Boyne to the Famine. Politics and Society in Ireland 1688-1848 (to be published by Routledge).

PhD Supervision

Has supervised two PhD and one MPhil students to completion and is currently supervising three PhD students. Has acted as an internal examiner for two PhDs. In 2008 acted as an external examiner for a PhD (European Doctorate) at the University of La Coruna, Spain.
