New Undergraduate Degree in Global Sustainable Development

The University has approved a brand new BASc single honours course in Global Sustainable Development to be launched in October 2018.

Building upon the success of the existing joint degree courses and taking account of feedback received from current and prospective students, this new course allows students to study in-depth the issues around Global Sustainable Development that concern them most.

Students will study the same core modules as on the existing joint degree courses and can structure the remaining part of each year of the course themselves by choosing modules from the range of those offered by the Global Sustainable Development (GSD) team and modules provided by other departments around the University which have a Global Sustainable Development focus.

The new course has the same attractive features as the existing BASc joint courses:

  • the ability to study abroad as part of a three year course
  • an inter-disciplinary approach which examines issues from a variety of perspectives
  • a strong emphasis on team working and problem solving
  • opportunities to gain certificates attesting to skills acquired in areas valued by employers.

So, if you are not wedded to the study of a ‘traditional’ academic subject, if you are interested in the world’s problems and want to learn more about them, if you want to make a difference to the world, if you are flexible and adaptable and able to consider global issues from different perspectives and understand their complexity, if you can think creatively about potential solutions, then, our new course is ideal.
