CCPS DOCTORAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Centre for Cultural Policy Studies will offer one doctoral scholarship in 2012-2013. The scholarship scheme is open to both EU and Overseas candidates.

The scholarship will be known as the 'CCPS Doctoral Scholarship'.

The scholarship will be equivalent in value to the total course fee payable by a UK/EU student or half the total course fee payable by an overseas student.

The scholarship will be annually renewable for a three-year period, subject to satisfactory progress.

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must: (a) have received an unconditional offer for entry on to CCPS MPhil/PhD programme by January 31st 2012 and (b) have not been awarded a scholarship by any other awarding body that is equivalent to or in excess of the value of the CCPS Scholarship.

Priority will be given to candidates putting forward proposals for research in the general area of culture and international relations. This includes, though is not restricted to, culture and conflict, culture and war, culture and diplomacy, culture and development, culture and tourism, culture and nationalism, culture and religion.

Candidates with proposals in the designated priority area (see 7 above) will be considered first. Candidates with proposals in other research areas will only be considered if the scholarship is not awarded to a candidate in the designated priority area.

All candidates who meet the criteria in 5(a) above will automatically be considered for the CCPS scholarship, on the basis of the information submitted to the University as part of their application and in the light of the recommendation from the candidate’s proposed supervisor.

The scholarship will be awarded on the recommendation of the CCPS Doctoral Scholarship Committee (DSC), on the basis of the following factors: (a) The candidate’s academic track record; (b) The quality of the candidate’s application for entry to the University; (c) Letter of recommendation from the candidate’s proposed supervisor; (d) relevance to the scholarship's designated priority area.

The successful candidate will be notified before the end of February 2012. Unsuccessful candidates will not be notified.

The successful candidate must inform the Centre Director if s/he has applied for or has been awarded any other scholarship.

If the successful candidate has been or is awarded another scholarship, equivalent to or in excess of the value of the CCPS scholarship, the CCPS scholarship will be withdrawn. In this case, the scholarship may be offered to another candidate.

The DSC reserves the right not to award the scholarship.
