AHRC funding for MA by Research 2012-13
The department has one AHRC-funded MA by Research award in Theatre and Performance Studies for 2012-13.
Candidates interested in being nominated for the AHRC award need to apply to undertake an MA by Research at the University of Warwick first. Acceptance for the degree by the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies is subject to available research expertise, so it is advisable to consult the profiles of individual members of academic staff first to ensure there is someone who would be in a position to supervise. Individual staff pages are at: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/theatre_s/staff/ Practice-based research proposals are welcome.
Theatre and Performance Studies places its research focus on the complex ways performance(s) interact in the public sphere, producing as well as representing myriad modes of social practice, aesthetic expression, and political intervention. Our research is transnational, collaborative and interdisciplinary, and follows new directions in historical studies as well as contemporary performance trajectories. Our research projects are both collaborative among colleagues and individual. As a department, we are committed to theoretically informed research that looks outward beyond the academy into a larger arena to see how performances influence - or intervene in - public perceptions or public policy. We have identified five major (but not mutually exclusive) strands running through our research programmes. These are: festivals and popular culture, performance and the city, national/international/transnational performance in an era of change, performance of everyday life, creative research as method.
The Department currently has a lively postgraduate research student culture. The Department also runs two taught MAs, in Theatre Consultancy and in International Performance Research (MAIPR). The latter is run over 16 months in conjunction with European partner universities in Belgrade, Amsterdam and Helsinki/Tampere, with students spending time in two of the four locations.
Nominations for the AHRC-funded award will be made by the Department by the deadline of 30th March 2012, so potential candidates are advised to apply as soon as they can.
