Explanation of categories

Category A refers to students who are from outside Europe; more precisely this means neither a national nor a resident of Europe as defined in B.
If you have been in Europe 'for your main activity' for 12 months or more in the past five years we can only consider you for a scholarship at category B rates (and you will have to fund the difference of participation charges also).

Students from the following Category A countries are particularly encouraged to apply: we can nominate certain scholarships specially reserved for these countries.

  • Turkey.
  • Western Balkans: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244/99, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
  • North Africa: Tunisia, Egypt.
  • Eastern Europe: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine.

Category B means students who are nationals of:

  • EU member states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.
  • EFTA countries in the EEA: Iceland, Norway and Lichtenstein
  • For Scholarships, you will be counted as category B if you have carried out your main activity (studies, training or work) in the above countries for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years.

Note that if you have previously benefited from an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, you are not eligible to receive another. However European students who have participated in Erasmus exchange programmes remain eligible.

Non-EU Scholars awards

Funding is available to appoint EM Scholars from Category A countries (see above) who are of the highest academic quality and effective communicators, and have a clear commitment to enriching the Masters programme. Typically this will be by contributing a keynote talk combined with either some pedagogical lecturing or a real commitment to spend extended time discussing with our Masters students. Keynote talks will typically (speakers permitting) be recorded and made available online. Whilst we expect our research connections to be a dominant mode of recruitment, we will also consider direct applications from third country scholars via an online facility. See more on the selection policy here http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/cross_fac/comcom/emmcs/admissions.

Those interested in applying should contact a node leader in the first instance (University of Warwick: complexity at warwick dot ac dot uk; University of Gothenburg : laila dot johannesson at science dot gu dot se, Chalmers Institute: erikat at chalmers dot se, Ecole Polytechnique alexandra dot belus at polytechnique dot edu.)
