Other ways of financing Graduate study

Industrial Sponsorship
Industry has not adopted a uniform approach to funding postgraduate study. Instead, industrial sponsorship is variable and its availability subject to change. For these reasons there is no directory of potential industrial sponsors currently available. However, some companies either have a policy of sponsoring their own employees who wish to study for postgraduate courses for training purposes, or may agree to fund individual employees as part of their career development programme. Candidates in employment should ask their employees whether they can help fund postgraduate study. In addition, companies may offer sponsorship for postgraduate study to potential employees, so applicants may wish to write around companies to ask if this type of sponsorship is available.

Trusts and Charities
While there are large numbers of trusts and charities, very few will able to meet the total amount needed for fees and maintenance. Candidates should consult the Directory of Grant-Making Trusts, published by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), 48 Penbury Road, Tonbridge, Kent TN9 2JD. Another useful source of information for UK residents on local trusts and charities can be Local Education Authorities.
