Being Human: Medicine and the Human Sciences
What does it mean to be human?Being Human: Medicine and the Human Sciences is the title of a research network and series of events funded by the Institute of Advanced Study. It investigates the interplay of neuroscience, medicine, philosophy, psychology, sociology, law and history to contemplate the nature of consciousness and being is, historically, presently and looking towards a - potentially - post-human future. The third theme of the Being Human research network 2011-12 is the interrelationship of human identity and animality. It will feature a lecture and a day-long symposium followed by a performance of Kathryn Hunter in the critically-acclaimed 'Kafka's Monkey' at the Warwick Arts Centre.
