Organised jointly by the Industry and Parliamentary Trust (IPT) and the University of Warwick's International Security Initiative, this breakfast series brings together policymakers, researchers and businesspeople to discuss the security issues that pose critical questions to both government and industry now more than ever before. Below you will find information about the first two events in this series.

'Protecting London 2012': 17 March 2010

Summary

The Olympics are an opportunity for London. They also pose a threat to its safety and security. While the experience of previous events has shown that good planning can deliver a trouble-free games, the threat of international terrorism demands a whole range of innovative security measures, and a collaborative approach from business and government. The speakers will consider the security challenges posed by the Olympics and the lessons that can be learned from Beijing, Athens and Sydney.

'Business, Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and Resilience'

Summary

Legislators and wealth generators both seek the common goal of greater security. Over the past decade, the private sector has shown the very real benefits of using its commercial expertise, capabilities and international reach to provide CNI-related services that were previously thought of as the exclusive domain of the public sector.

• What role will business have in CNI over the next two decades?
• What can be learned from the experiences of the last decade about the protection of CNI?
