Researchers - Research Governance

Research Governance

The Research Governance Framework requires any research concerning NHS patients, staff, premises or equipment (including research using tissue or data only) to receive Research and Governance (R&G, also known as R&D or RM&G) approvals from the relevant NHS bodies. This is in addition to ethical approval. For Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), this includes research carried out on NHS patients within general practices, dental surgeries, community pharmacies and other primary care organisations. Researchers need to obtain approval within each area in which they wish to run their study and to include all the relevant CCGs, Mental Health Trusts and Acute Trusts.

If you are thinking of running a study in primary care you will require R&D approvals. For advice on seeking R&D approval please email the RDS West Midlands: rds@warwick.ac.uk
