Training and support

We aim to support BEME review groups throughout the systematic review process in order for the finished product to be up to the standards of BEME Guides. There are a number of resources available to download for free on the BEME website for review groups to refer to (please click here).

We also offer workshops to support review groups through the review process. Workshops are run at major medical education meetings (such as AMEE and ASME conferences) on practical aspects relating to conducting reviews. If the review group would prefer a face-to-face training workshop with a BEME consultant, this can be arranged (indeed, many review groups have found this invaluable). The review group must allocate funding for a training workshop.

If you would like to attend or book a workshop, please contact the BEME administration at beme.collaboration@warwick.ac.uk.

Review groups can also receive email or telephone support from BEME. Any questions can be sent directly to beme.collaboration@warwick.ac.uk, where they will be forwarded appropriately.

ScHARR Training: 'Principles of Systematic Review and Evidence Synthesis'

The School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) at the University of Sheffield is now offering an accredited stand-alone unit on the Principles of systematic review and evidence synthesis.

The unit is taught part-time by e-learning, lasts 15 weeks (12 weeks of taught materials, 3 weeks for assignment completion) and costs £2,500. It is delivered in online, distance learning formats, using the university's new Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) supported by Blackboard. This offers good value as there are no travel, materials or residency costs and, because it is also a core unit on the University's new postgraduate programme in International HTA, Pricing and Reimbursement, can ultimately also contribute to certificate or diploma accreditation for this degree. The time involved (4 months) also permits study at much greater critical depth than can be achieved in some residential short courses.

The unit will run in Semester 1 this year (end of September 2011 - February 12)

Applications are being taken now.
