Professor Mark Pallen

Mark PallenI was Professor of Microbial Genomics at the University of Warwick from April 2013 to April 2017

From April 2017, I have been a Research Leader at the Quadram Institute and Professor of Microbial Genomics at the University of East Anglia. I hold an honorary appointment at Warwick.

I am dually qualified as a scientist (BA from Cambridge, PhD from Imperial) and as a medic/clinical bacteriologist (MBBS from London Hospital, MD from Barts, FRCPath), and benefit from Research-Council funding for both bioinformatics and laboratory-based molecular bacteriology projects. My research interests focus on bacterial pathogenesis and the exploitation of sequence data, particularly high-throughput sequencing data.

In recent years, I have taught on microbiology and human genome evolution: my recent lectures and research talks are available on my YouTube channel

I am the author of The Rough Guide to Evolution, a popular and wide-ranging introduction to Charles Darwin, the theory of evolution and their ramifications in science and society.
