About Us

Warwick Orthopaedics is the academic unit for trauma and orthopaedics at Warwick Medical School, in partnership with Warwickshire hospitals. We are at the forefront of clinical practice and research in trauma and orthopaedics.

  • Our orthopaedic research forms a key strand of the clinical and cost effectiveness research at Warwick Medical School
  • In partnership with UHCW, George Eliot and Warwick Hospitals we are able to offer leading orthopaedic research and teaching combined with clinical excellence.
  • The Clinical Sciences Research Institute, a facility for WMS clinical research, opened in May 2004, and is where we are based.
  • The new state-of-the-art University Hospital on the Walsgrave site provides us with a fantastic clinical, educational, and research environment.

Research

Our primary research focus is the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of various techniques and treatments in orthopaedic surgery.

This is an important area of research, not only because resource limitations have brought questions of effectiveness and cost  to the top of political agendas, but because it has long been overlooked in this specialty.

Education

Warwick Orthopaedics offers a great range of educational opportunities for medical students, SpRs, Fellows, Consultants and health professionals in related disciplines.

We are involved in teaching University of Warwick Medical Students, at pre-clinical and clinical stages.

In terms of CPD, we offer a specialist MClinSci programme, including a series of Masters-level evidence-based courses. Throughout the year we also hold one- and two day symposia on key topics for orthopaedic surgeons.

Clinical

Our clinical work is based at the hospitals comprising the UHCW NHS Trust (University Hospital at Walsgrave, Hospital of St Cross & Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital), George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton, and Warwick Hospital, Warwick.
