2007 Community Blood Pressure awareness
Thurs, May 17, 2007 World Hypertension Day:
Thur, April 26th, 2007: Workshop on hypertension and cardiovascular risk for community pharmacists
Michele Beevers, a national expert in blood pressure measurement and Professor Cappuccio and Professor Singer from Warwick Medical School discussed blood pressure with community pharmacists from Coventry and surrounding area. Topics discussed included how to improve accuracy of blood pressure measurement, lifestyle measures, modern BHS/NICE guideline based use of medicines to reduce blood pressure and its complications, including heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular disorders, and ways to identify and reduce adverse effects of treatment.
March 26 - 31, 2007: Role of community pharmacists in recognition and reduction of cardiovascular risk
A week of free blood pressure checks took place at Coventry pharmacies Mon, March 26 - Sat March 31, 2007. People were able to have a free check at any of the five Coventry Alliance pharmacies which are in Jardine Crescent, Tile Hill; Stoney Stanton Road, Bell Green; Quorn Way, Ernesford Grange; Hipswell Highway, Wyken; and Jubilee Crescent, Radford. The checks were the brainchild of Alliance pharmacy technician Carl Rose who tested his own blood pressure and discovered he had a medical problem needing specialist investigation and treatment at the University Hospital.
