The Health Sciences Research Institute (HSRI) is one of two research-led institutes in Warwick Medical School. Our research aims to improve the health of individuals and populations, and feeds directly into the School’s teaching. It informs policy and service development locally, nationally and internationally. Grant income for 2006-07 was just under £5.8 million. There are over a 100 staff (academic, research and administrative) with 12 professors. Key research areas include public mental health, prevention of cardiovascular disease, clinical systems improvement, emergency care, management of musculoskeletal problems, management of diabetes and other chronic diseases, cancer and palliative care, Ehealth, complexity in health care and health research methodology. The hallmark of research in the HSRI is that it is multi-disciplinary and collaborative, working across different professional and academic disciplines including primary care, public health, child health and paediatrics, psychiatry, psychology, rehabilitation, emergency medicine and nursing, clinical trials, epidemiology, meta-analysis, biostatistics and social science. The HSRI hosts the WMS Clinical Trials Unit The Institute has excellent links with the local health economy, including Primary Care, Mental Health and Hospital Trusts, and with clinical colleagues working in general practice, mental health, public health, physiotherapy and child health.
