Aims

 
The critical care group was established in 2007 with the appointment of Dr Gavin Perkins (DH NIHR Clinician Scientist and Associate Clinical Professor) and Professor Fang (Professor of Critical Care, Anaesthesia and Pain). The Group's main area of interest are acute lung injury / the acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis and resuscitation. The main focus of the group is clinical trials, but  the group are also interested in advancing the understanding of the pathophysiology of critical illness and are involved in a number of translational studies in collaboration with Dr David Thickett (Birmingham University), Dr Danny McAuley (Belfast University) and Dr D Spanswick (Warwick University).

BALTI-Prevention: RCT to establish the mechanisms and efficacy of beta-2 agonists for preventing and accelerating the resolution of acute lung injury in critically ill patients

e-ALS trial (electronic advanced life support)
