Studying, learning and using techniques to provide a continuous system of better safer healthcare, with respect to quality, timeliness and cost, by improvement of processes, leadership and knowledge  across the whole integrated system to the benefit and satisfaction of the user.

We have undertaken desk research, interviews and pilot activities around the topic of systems improvement.

A conference was held on 20 February 2007, providing an opportunity to share ideas. It brought together those from the service, those from higher education and those from other sectors, who have knowledge and experience of service improvement.   The purpose of the day was to arrive at a consensus about what an NHS curriculum for Clinical Systems Improvement should be designed to achieve.

The result of our activity has been a draft curriculum document, which was circulated  widely. It was formally launched by Don Berwick on 23rd January 2008. This is a living document and will continue being developed.
