Social and Emergency Care Programme

This programme of work looks at the impact of social care initiatives on the emergency healthcare system. We have a particular focus on the care of older people and integrating the service users perspctive in our research

Current projects

 Mapping social care interventions in ED                                                                   

The aim of this research is to map the objectives, extent, organisation, and function of these interventions with the aim of developing a checklist of best practice to encourage further capacity building.

Social Work and Older People in an Anglo-Scandiniavian Study 2004

Reducing waits and attendances at Emergency Departments 2004 . Part of this systematic literature review looked at the imapct of various social care initiatives.

Social Workers in A&E 2001 - This study evaluatted the role, service advantages and user opinion of a project to introduce a social worker into an emergency assessment unit of an acute hospital.
