Topics for discussion are likely to include:
- The epistemology of plastinates as sources of anatomical knowledge, and their relationship to other anatomical bodies
- Representation, authenticity, 'realness'
- The ethics of public anatomical exhibitions
Participants will be introduced to a selection of plastinated specimens with the expert guidance of Professor Abrahams, an anatomist with an international reputation in the field and many years experience.
Warwick Medical School is making extensive use of plastinated prosections for anatomy teaching and 200 specimens, acquired from Gunther von Hagens' Plastinarium, are stored at the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire
