    Mental health

Mental health has expanded very quickly at Warwick Medical School. Senior academic psychiatrists are central to a research and teaching programme that continues to grow rapidly. Our core interests are in the areas of:

    • Psychosis and its management
    • The interplay of ethnicity and mental health
    • The societal and environmental determinants of common mental disorders
    • Public health aspects of mental illness

We have a number of funded research staff and students and a portfolio of externally funded projects from diverse funders including Department of Health, MRC and charities. The projects running at Warwick Medical School range in type from secondary analyses of large epidemiological datasets, through randomized controlled trials of interventions, qualitative studies among service users to naturalistic outcomes within services. We are constantly looking to collaborate; within the Medical School, with other departments in Warwick University, with other institutions, with the health and social care sector and with prospective students.

    Mental Health Research Network

The Mental Health Research Network (MHRN) helps researchers based at universities throughout the country to recruit people willing to take part in trials and studies through NHS services. It also works to involve people with experience of mental health problems, their family members and mental health professionals as advisors and consultants on research projects.

The MHRN is part of the National Institute for Health Research and you can find out more about what it does for research teams and how to get involved in its work and the studies it supports by contacting the Heart of England regional office (called a hub) on 0121 678 4326 or by visiting their website
