Biography
Professor Szczepura has over 20 years expertise in policy research and the organisation and management of health care. Prior to moving to Warwick, Professor Szczepura was an academic in Oxford, UMIST and the Open University, and a TV science presenter.
Her research interests include health technology assessment (HTA); service delivery, organisation and implementation issues; evaluation of new and emerging technologies; and ethnicity and health. National roles include membership of: the National Institute for Health Research Fellowship Panels. Previous roles have included member of Research Commissioning Board for the NHS HTA Programme. She is a founder member of an International Interest Group on Patient & Citizen Involvement in HTA; and the International Group on HTA in Developing Countries.
Current research interests include: delivery of care for patients with chronic conditions; re-engineering of the hospital-primary care interface; research focused on care homes, including models of nursing in-reach, care staff training and skill-mix; prescribing and medicines management; and evaluation of diagnostic tests. She has a long-standing interest in provision of services to meet the needs of diverse populations. She is co-Director of the UK Centre for Evidence in Ethnicity, Health and Diversity (CEEHD) and jointly developed the Ethnicity and Health section of NHS Evidence (NICE). She is a Visiting Professor at The University of the West of England, Bristol.
