    RESEARCH PROFILE

Epidemiology of child maltreatment; Epidemiology of sudden unexpected death in infancy; Child death review

    BACKGROUND

Peter Sidebotham is an Associate Professor in child health. He joined the medical school in January 2005, having previously worked in Bristol as a community paediatrician and honorary senior lecturer at Bristol University. A career which included some time working on a community health programme in Cambodia, led to an increasing commitment to working with vulnerable children and particularly those affected by child abuse and neglect. His clinical work includes child development and disability, child protection and responding to unexpected child deaths. As designated doctor for child protection he has helped to establish robust working arrangements for responding to child abuse and neglect across Coventry and Warwickshire. His major research interests include research into the epidemiology of child maltreatment, the epidemiology of sudden childhood death, and health services research in child death review and responding to child deaths. He has led in the development of national training materials in child protection and child death review.
