Orthopaedics
Orthopaedic surgery is a young and rapidly developing specialty. It is about improving the lives of people with disease or damage to their bones and joints. This can range from children with 'clicky' hips to people with back pain, hip or knee arthritis, osteoporosis, broken bones or hand and foot problems. We can help all of these people with surgical techniques that have been developed in just the last two decades and we anticipate that we can develop new techniques to help future patients - which means nearly all of us - over the coming years.
Taught Masters Programmes
WMS offers three Masters programmes which can be studied over a period of 2 - 8 years part time. They are multidisciplinary in nature and are intended either for people providing musculoskeletal care in primary care, those training in orthopaedic surgery or related specialties, or experienced health professionals, such as nurse practitioners or physiotherapists, wanting to expand their knowledge.
Places are available on the following Masters courses:
- MSc Health Sciences (Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery)
- MSc Health Sciences (Musculoskeletal Care)
- MSc Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery
Courses are modular, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Musculoskeletal Care) and Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences (Musculoskeletal Care) are also available.
Postgraduate Awards (PGAs)
We run a series of evidence-based postgraduate courses on different aspects of orthopaedics surgery and musculoskeletal care that can be taken as taken alone as a Postgraduate Award (PGA) or as specialist options on the postgraduate programmes above. Each course carries 20 CATS at Masters level.
