Systems Improvement Tools & Technique
The Applied Systems Improvement (SI) course focuses on the range of approaches that make up the SI toolkit and consists of 40 hours of structured learning activity spread over 5 days, delivered over a three to four month period, interspersed with workplace projects and learning. This delivery model is intended to allow participating teams sufficient time to reflect on their learning and pilot the appropriate use of SI techniques within appropriate work-based projects. Guided implementation of SI projects will be completed between each session. Continuing peer support will also be offered by an online discussion forum and a website of resources.
Who should attend?
Service Improvement Practitioners - those who have identified areas of improvement and are about to or have recently started to apply systems improvement processes. You will be working as part of a service improvement team and will have the scope to undertake improvement projects within your workplace.
It is recommended that a maximum of five participants from any team within an NHS organisation attends a course. Ideally these should reflect a spectrum of disciplines and grades. We would suggest the team should include representation of each of the following groups: manager, clinician, executive/senior role, front line worker.
Aims of the course
- to develop knowledgeable and informed practitioners of SI techniques
- to focus on the implementation of SI tools and techniques
- to encourage the sharing of experience amongst SI practitioners
Learning Outcomes
By end of the course participants will have gained:
- knowledge of SI tools and techniques;
- the capacity to differentiate and apply appropriate process improvement approaches;
- practical experience of undertaking an improvement oriented work-based project.
An additional outcome of the course will be membership of an established network of SI practitioners.
