    Case Reports

As a club, the BMJ group have provided us with a subscription at a subsidised cost which is included in the membership fee. This is a £10 per person; it costs £95 per person to publish with them as an individual. There is no limit to the amount of case reports members can publish. Members are encouraged to ask consultants they are attached to on their rotations about suitable patients and to also think of using portfolio cases which can be edited into a case report format.

Case reports are an opportunity for students to be published but also play an important part of medicine; they can back up evidence and deliver educational messages relevant to physicians. For more opinion on the advantages and disadvanteges of case reports read Dr Jenkins blog entry.

Here are some examples of case reports:

    Ruptured AAA

    Warfarin, head injury and bruising

    Acute respiratory distress

Feel free to visit the BMJ case reports website where you can read the editor's choice for other case reports. This is also the page to go to to submit case reports.

Finally, the BMJ case reports website also has as instructions for authors. Visit this page before you begin writing your case report; it has information on what they would like to publish and a template is available among other things. PLEASE NOTE: make sure to obtain patient consent and have them sign the BMJ consent form.
