Welcome BBQ – Sunday 4th September - Campus
Your first opportunity of fresher’s week to meet your entire new cohort. Held on campus it is aimed to be a nice relaxed event just for you all to meet each other. Of course the bar will be open and fingers crossed for sunshine! Look out for the MedSoc committee in our turquoise t-shirts, we’re here to answer any questions before your first day at WMS.
Monday 5th September - Pub Golf – Leamington Spa
Of course the traditional start to any university life…a pub crawl! We’ll be donning our best golfing gear and showing you what the pubs of Leamington Spa have to offer you. We know you’ll be wanting a drink or two, or maybe just a good night out, after your first day. For a small fee you can purchase a score card (and maybe a mini pencil if we can find them) and join us from the opening tee to the Clubhouse!
Tuesday 6th September - Parents Evening – Campus
***We provide the parents*** As is the tradition in medical schools across the country this is our opportunity to provide you with a mentor to help you find your way in first year. You will be adopted by a second year who will buy you a drink and introduce you to the extended family (yes you will have aunts, cousins, grandparents and probably that slightly odd uncle who sits in the corner). Your medic mum or dad will hopefully be there to guide you through your initial time at WMS with advice and a helping hand (or set of notes) if you need it!
Wednesday 7th September – Revue – Campus
A highlight of the WMS calendar, watch and enjoy as your fellow WMS students make musical fools of themselves for your entertainment! An all singing and dancing comedy farce of the year that has been! You may not get all the jokes at the time but it’ll have you chuckling all year when they do click, of course the subjects are not all to do with medicine, you can expect some witty commentary of major events (perhaps seen from the inside of the medic bubble) and some amazing singing, dancing and comedy that showcases the hidden talents of WMS!
Thursday 8th September – Doctors and Nurses – Campus and Coventry
If you attend one event all week this has to be it! The social event of the WMS calendar, expect a full turn out from all years. The premise is simple: men dress as female nurses, women as male doctors and we dance the night away. Stereotypical perhaps, but a laugh none the less and a WMS tradition. People really do go all out (especially the men) so be prepared and buy your costume before induction week. We rent a whole club in Coventry, provide a coach from campus, so all you need to do is provide the suspenders and fake moustaches! Tickets will be on sale during induction week but get in early as it’s sure to be sell out!
Friday 9th September – Pub Quiz – Campus
After a week of full on partying (and as a break before the ball) Friday night will be dedicated to a good old fashioned pub quiz. This will all be in aid of charity. Expect some quirky rounds thrown in with the more traditional fayre and of course some bad medical puns! Get thinking of a good quiz name now, the geekier the better (best to get it in before you get sick of the medic chat) as I’m sure they’ll be some extra prizes thrown in along the way!
Saturday 10th September - Welcome Week Ball
Here MedSoc hand over to the more than capable hands of the Medical School to provide you with a bit of sophistication to end your week! You know the deal, 3 course meal followed by a bit of a boogie to a tacky DJ! Med School will provide you with all the details and tickets will be on sale in advance and during induction week!
