Electives
Electives
STEP aim to provide students with a basic knowledge of the electives available in the UK and beyond that are relevant to STEP specialities. From personal expereince submitted to us and links to additional sources of information, we hope this page will help you decide which electives to consider embarking upon.
PROFILES
Australia:
- The Royal Society of Medicine is offering a prize of £500 towards the cost of an elective specialising in Emergency Medicine as well as 1 years RSM membership to the winning student of that applies for this prize. A brief outline of your elective plans (in less than 1000 words) must be submitted along with the application form. Selection for the prize also gives you the opportunity to present your elective to the Emergency Medicine Section of RSM upon your return. Take the opportunity to reduce the financial burden of your elective and apply. Look at the Awards
section of the RSM website to find out how to apply. - One good source of information on such electives is the Trauma.org site; listing several electives around the world with details on opportunities on each elective, their costs and contact details. This is a great starting point when researching the type of locations that host trauma electives and give you a guide on how much each host institution may charge.
Can you help us develop this page? If you have been on an elective that included any of the specialities associated with STEP then please email us. We are trying to develop a colleciton of elective reports that will enable future students to get an idea of the trauma electives around the world. We aren't looking for a document of the nature that WMS require from you as part of the course. Just a short article that explains what your elective involved and details about cost etc... obviously pictures would be great too!! If you're keen to do this then please email stepcommittee@live.co.uk THANKS!
