Application process

Students are recruited to either:

1+3 years: MSc followed by PhD project in specific research area

or

4 years direct start PhD project with an external partner

Applications are invited on a rolling basis up to deadlines of January 31 / March 31 / May 31 / July 15 / August 15 / September 1 each year. Applicants are encouraged to apply early since popular projects may be allocated before the close of the application window.

Application process

Step 1: Initial application to the CDT is via this form, where you indicate an interest in up to three of the available projects. At this point, to avoid any unconscious bias, your application and transcript will be anonymised during the first screening by CDT academics. If you wish you can submit a CV that does not contain your name or information about gender. We appreciate that it is not possible for you to alter all documents, e.g. official transcripts in this manner. In that case all the submitted documents will be anonymised by the CDT administrative staff, who do not make selection decisions. Please do not apply via Warwick Universal Application system at this stage; an application should only be made on that system following personal invitation from the CDT Director.

Step 2: Our target is to provide a response to your application as soon as possible, normally within 4 weeks, as to whether your application is progressing to the next stage of the application process. (Where response times are stated here, they correspond to the University of Warwick's term dates. Response times may be longer outside of term time due to staff availability).

Step 3: The next stage of the application process is an online interview of approximately 30 minutes duration with the CDT Director or MSc Director and another member of academic staff associated with the project. The timing of this online interview may vary for the different advertised positions (as a function of the applications received). In any case, the invitation to a skype interview will be within 4 weeks of the next application deadline [January 31 / March 31 / May 31 / July 15 / August 15, September 1]. You are encouraged to apply early since popular projects may be allocated before the close of the application window.

Step 4: You will be notified of the outcome of the online interview as soon as possible, normally within 4 weeks. In the final stage of the process, successful applicants will be invited to make a formal application on the Warwick Universal Application system and to visit Warwick for a final in-person interview, where you will also be able to meet with current students and view the facilities. You will be notified of the final outcome as soon as possible, normally within 4 weeks after the final interview.
